XIS - problem solving with suppliers Philips

- Safety problem of television back covers , co-operation with plastics suppliers at Philips (1998-1999?)

Philips Electronics had safety problems with their televisons. A change to inflammable plastics for the back cover was considered as an option but the related use of flame retardants would cause environmental problems and a double price per kilo. Involving the technical support departments of the plastic supplying companies was relatively new but effective. Dow Chemical used a japanese test set up, which finally led to the insight of the root cause. The IEC accepted an adapted test procedure and Philips could continue to use their standard plastic for the Television back covers.
